#BlackLivesMatter (Show #99)

Audacious Wendy has thoughts on a silent word implied in the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag and wonders how the language chosen in movements shifts political discourse. We talk about police typecasting and violence, the power structures that keep things the same, and approaching hard conversations on race with friends. Audacious Robin talks about growing up in a biracial family and her recent experience with driving while black. We are hopeful about future generations’ ability to grow beyond racism, while knowing we need to keep speaking up, and we need real change right now.

Working Together & RIOTS!!! (Show #94)

Did you ever wonder how these audacious women got together as friends in the first place?

It actually came about because of a group that sponsored a musical play that was to be presented at a pagan festival.  Mary was the director, Wendy was the composer and musical director, Donna was one of the singers and Robin was part of the sponsoring group. They didn’t really know each other when rehearsals started, but had so much fun, the rest is history.

Now, many years later, Wendy and Mary will be creating a new theatrical piece, with the encouragement and support of Robin and Donna. Like the Fool Card that keeps showing up in their Tarot readings, they will take a leap of faith together.

The topic of the play they are creating is based on an event in New York’s Civil War history that has much to do with the politics today. It touches on class wars and race riots, the sources of hate and the need for healing.

UNFRIENDLIES (Show #88)

In which we discuss the concepts expressed in Season 6, Episode 1 of Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman, “Are We All Bigots?” The premise is that people can be classified into 4 quadrants Friend/Foe and Competent/Incompetent, where “competent” means that the person can enact their will upon you, and why a powerful competent woman scares the crap out of everyone. There is some strong language in this episode (More than usual? Not sure.)

Community! (Show #87)

Happy Litha!
Today we take a DEEP dive into our thoughts and feelings about relationships, reconnecting, and the creation and dissolving of communities. Does social media really help to connect us or is it just an illusion? Is a parting of the ways or the end of a community always a bad thing?

(Oh, BTW I just watched the last episode of Community last night. Much as I love it, should it really come back next season?)
