Show #20: Mercury Retrograde and the Economy

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

Precipitate: to hasten the occurrence of; bring about prematurely, hastily, or suddenly: to precipitate an international crisis.

In this podcast, we discuss the role of Astrology in the current economic crisis.

Some non-astrological background information about the economic issues the world is facing can be found on these NPR podcasts:

NPR has been running some VERY good explanatory podcasts on “Fresh Air” about the financial crisis for the past couple of weeks.

Fresh Air, Sept 23 – Wall Street Bailout, A conflict of interest?

Fresh Air, Oct 1 – A Long View of the Wall Street “Dream”

And a post on a LiveJournal blog, which explains something about international investment banking and why credit is drying up now.

Some data that we didn’t have when we recorded the podcast, but that we looked up later on:

The “Crash of 1929″, according to Wikipedia occurred on 3 dates: 10/24 and then 10/28-10/29 of 1929. Mercury was in Libra during this period. It went retrograde at 23Libra on 9/28, and went direct at 08Libra on 10/17. Mercury was in the “shadow” until 11/2. Venus was also in Libra  during this time, and Mars was in Scorpio.

The “Crash of 1987″ was the next big one. This happened on 10/19/1987. Mercury went retrograde at 13Scorpio on 10/16 and went direct at 27Libra on 11/6.

There was another huge drop in the market on 9/17/2001 (as a reaction to 9/11). Mercury went retrograde in Libra on 10/1/2001.

Show #19: Large Vegetable Menace

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

We’ve been finding that some of the funniest things get said when “the tape is not rolling” – when we’re not recording. Well, we tried to fix that with this ‘cast.

By request, we talk about Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. This brings up a lot of other vegetable menace films and cult movies that we’ve enjoyed, and some that you’ve probably never heard of (but should now go rent and watch!), like Earth Girls Are Easy, Head, 200 Motels, Privilege, The Thousand Fingers of Doctor Wu, and Mars Attacks.

Bombardment!

Trivia question of the day: What do the Monkees, Victor Mature, and Frank Zappa have in common?

Show #14 – Procrastination

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

We finally did a show about procrastination – why we procrastinate, and what we can possibly do about it to be more efficient, and less guilt-ridden.

We procrastinate because we are afraid, or because we put ourselves second, or we might loathe the task facing us, or even it’s the procrastination fairy prevents us from getting things done.

What we can do about it is to schedule these tasks, follow through, and fit in small tasks in the bits of “down time” that you find during the day, and talk to people about what blocks you.

Take the Audacious Challenge with us!

Pick a project that you’ve wanted to get done, but the Procrastination Fairy has prevented you from starting.

Go to this page, and post what that project is, and we will all keep each other on track with monthly updates and encouragement.

Show #13 – Voiceovers

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

We get silly again, geeking out – Audacious Robin does an Axl Rose impersonation, Audacious Wendy sings like Cher. We talk about doing voiceovers in video games, IVR systems (“press 2 to continue”), and breaking in to the voiceover market.

We also invent a new religion, Continuism: Shit keeps happening!

Attention Benefactors or Animators/Cartoonists

If you would like to make the Audacious Eleven cartoon a reality, email us – we are looking for funding or an animator or cartoonist that is willing to work on spec and get famous along with us.

Sunday, July 20th, 2008
The #1 Talk Show for Shakespearean Rock ‘n’ Roll Tech Geek Magic and Life Empowerment has just posted its 11th show on Sunday, July 20th. To celebrate this mystical milestone, Audacious Donna, Mary, Robin, and Wendy are holding a contest - The 11:11 Listener Drive! Our wordy tagline points to the fact that you never know what you’ll hear on Audacious Eleven, and it’s time for even more people out there to hear it. Will all you loyal and newly intrigued listeners help us out? Here’s the deal:

Tell all your clever, interesting, hip, and/or bored friends to do two little things:

  1. Go to www.audaciouseleven.com and listen to at least one Audacious Eleven podcast.
  2. Become a friend of Audacious Eleven on MySpace at www.myspace.com/audaciouseleven. (If your friends are particularly expedient or lazy, they can access our shows right on MySpace via our blog.) When they friend us, they need to let us know you sent them. That way, we can keep score.

The first 11 people to send 11 of their friends our way will win one of 11 fabulous prizes! Prizes include the chance to pick an Audacious Eleven discussion topic, your very own cartoon avatar a la Audacious Eleven, never-before-heard outtakes from the show, CDs, and curios from the homes of the four audacious women who are Audacious Eleven, and more. We won’t tell you what the “more” consists of yet, but rest assured, those prizes are fabulous, too.

So have at it. Thanks for playing!

Love,

Audacious Eleven

Show #10: Guilty Pleasures and Star Trek Vocalists

Monday, June 30th, 2008

In this episode, we take some time out from serious talk to chat about the movies we like but are embarrassed to admit it, and also about some of the records made by the stars of the original Star Trek TV series.

Audacious Wendy has to apologize to Audacious Donna! During the ‘cast, Wendy claims that Sam Raimi was not “in” Army of Darkness. He did not, in fact, act in that film. He directed and co-wrote it. So Donna was absolutely correct to call AoD a “Sam Rami” film.
